About the Team:

The FERC Generation Compliance Team is responsible for the compliance management and oversight of LS Power’s generation fleet, ensuring LS Power’s business activities comply with all applicable FERC rules and regulations. The FERC Generation Compliance Team also serves as the oversight function, dedicated to the monitoring and interpreting of FERC rules and requirements and in supporting the effective execution of the day-to-day operational processes and controls needed to meet FERC regulations.

 

About the Role

The primary role of the FERC Compliance Analyst will be to support the implementation of the FERC Compliance Program and to help drive effective administration of the program in concert with the various business units and departments at LS Power under the supervision of the FERC Compliance Manager and Chief Compliance Officer.

 

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Support the FERC Generation Compliance Team (FERC Team) in the establishment and implementation of the FERC Compliance Program with respect to the identified key FERC compliance focus areas
  • Support the identification and management of potential FERC compliance issues and perform FERC Compliance-related activities
  • Assist the FERC Team in identifying risks associated with trading physical and financial energy commodities and the development and execution of risk mitigation strategies and action plans to address identified compliance risks
  • Assist in the monitoring of commercial activities in compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Support the FERC team with internal investigations and audits and respond to regulatory requests from federal and regional regulatory agencies
  • Work with internal groups in performing transaction and communication monitoring activities related to LS Power’s commodity trading activities in the physical and financial energy commodity markets
  • Work with internal groups to review new transactions, products, and business development initiatives to identify and mitigate potential compliance impacts
  • Assist the FERC Team in the establishment and management of a robust monitoring and auditing process to ensure ongoing adherence to policies and regulations
  • Assist in the management and submission of compliance reporting obligations including, but not limited to, FERC regulatory reporting requirements and Dodd Frank SDR reporting requirements
  • Develop and deliver related compliance training programs
  • Assist in the development and administration of compliance alerts

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s Degree
  • Have experience of 3-5 years in trading compliance, risk and analytics, or operations in the energy trading industry. 3-5 years’ experience working in a commodity trading office environment, specifically dealing and working directly with commodity trading groups, trading operations, and other functions.
  • Have experience and/or working knowledge of the ISOs/RTOs (PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE, MISO, CAISO, or ERCOT) and/or trading platforms and exchanges (ICE, NYMEX/CME, Nodal Exchange)
  • Are detail oriented and have proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PP)
  • Have a solid understanding of the physical and financial energy commodity markets and products
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and problem solving skills
  • Are able to multitask and effectively manage time to meet deadlines
  • Are able to define and set priorities, follow through, and respond to changes in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision

Ideally, you would also … 

  • Support the administration and management of FERC-related trainings, including but not limited to Standards of Conduct new hire and annual trainings, FERC ICP trainings, and ad hoc trainings related to FERC/CFTC enforcement actions/investigations/change in law;
  • Assist in the management and completion of FERC regulatory filings
    • Work cross-functionally with other departments in collection and gathering of data;
    • Manage the review and submission of filings
