Compensation

The salary for this role is $120,000 - $140,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. This salary range may also be modified in the future.

 

About the Role:

A leading asset operator, investor, and developer focused on the energy markets in the United States.  The successful candidate will actively manage positions stemming from a portfolio of assets like solar, wind, and battery storage; optimizing and hedging risks such as intermittency, congestion, and DART spreads. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the fragmented power markets across the United States, sound knowledge of trading products, analytical and programming capability and structuring expertise.

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Perform market analysis to determine short- and long-term trading opportunities in the commodity markets (Power, FTRs, emissions, RECs, natural gas, power basis).
  • Directly oversee third parties who are leading the day-to-day commercial strategies for generating facilities (bidding, procuring fuel, outage coordination, etc.).
  • Utilize industry fundamental analysis to research market dynamics and assess trade and hedge positions.
  • Co-develop tools and integrated systems supporting the trading activity, such as stack models, bidding tools, dashboards.
  • Monitor market, industry, product and pricing trends.
  • Assist with structuring and negotiating documentation to put trades into place.
  • Provide asset valuation support for company’s acquisition and development activity.
  • Maintain close interaction with operational teams, collecting real-time asset insights and proving them with market info to base operational decisions (e.g., maintenances, LD estimates, etc.).
  • Present hedge strategies (and their results) to executive committees and broader groups, (e.g., including teams such as finance, operations, legal, asset managers, etc.).
  • Develop power generation hedging strategies across market regions to maximize profitability and minimize margin volatility.
  • Hedging would focus on the gross margin value streams such as power, ancillaries, and capacity.
  • Formulate risk management and trading strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with strategic objectives and existing risk controls.
  • Apply statistical and econometric analysis to raw Power and Gas data sets to form robust conclusions with predictive value.

Qualifications

We want you on our team because you…

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Have a minimum of three years of trading, structuring, and/or analytical support experience within the power industry.
  • Have analytic, modeling, and fundamental research skills including demonstrated capability utilizing programming languages (writing, reading and editing code).
  • Possess working knowledge of various trade capture and programming systems.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Can work on a number of simultaneous projects with minimal supervision and exemplary follow-through.

Ideally, you also have

  • Experience in ERCOT market area
  • Experience dealing with intermittency resources (Wind or Solar farms).
  • Good understanding in risk management, usual metrics and thresholds.
  • Proficiency handling complex data sets, using tools such as Excel and Pyhton (SQL queries is a plus).
