Overview

What you can expect
The Human Resources Manager will execute the daily operations of the Human Resources department, including talent acquisition, onboarding and offboarding, employee relations, payroll, compliance, and benefits administration. This role also serves as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to OPTERRA supervisors and staff, fostering a positive and productive workplace culture.

 

This position will sit in Oakland, CA and will report to the HR Director.

What you will bring

  • Administer and oversee full-cycle HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, offboarding, and policy development
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all employee relations matters, providing guidance and support across departments
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and maintain accurate HR records
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Manage payroll coordination and partner with external providers as needed
  • Lead benefits administration including open enrollment, employee inquiries, and vendor management
  • Develop and update HR policies, handbooks, and procedures to reflect company culture and legal requirements
  • Champion employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs, surveys, and training efforts
  • Handle sensitive situations with discretion, empathy, and professionalism
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $99,000 – $151,800 USD annually

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (HR certification a plus)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a generalist or manager capacity
  • Strong knowledge of labor law and employment regulations, especially within the state of California.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable operating with minimal supervision and making decisions across a wide range of HR topics
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms (e.g., ADP Workforce Now) and Microsoft Office Suite
