About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Wildfire Mitigation Intern to support our wildfire mitigation and compliance initiatives. This role offers hands-on experience in regulatory compliance, risk monitoring, data analysis, and stakeholder coordination, with exposure to real-world wildfire mitigation strategies in the utility sector.

Responsibilities

What you will do:

 

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Compile and organize data, maps, and supporting materials for OEIS responses.
  • Maintain and update compliance calendars and internal task tracking systems (e.g., AssurX).
  • Prepare and format documentation for audits and regulatory filings.

Wildfire Incident Monitoring & Risk Dashboard Support

  • Help automated wildfire risk dashboards integrating data from CAL FIRE, NIFC, NASA FIRMS, and local fire agencies.
  • Conduct daily reviews of wildfire reports and summarize key findings for dashboards.
  • Maintain wildfire activity databases and prepare weekly risk summaries for internal stakeholders.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Document and summarize meeting discussions, follow-up actions, and team inputs.
  • Support the creation and documentation of workflows and best practices for wildfire mitigation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure timely and accurate communication of wildfire mitigation activities.

Qualifications

We want you on our team because you:

  • Are currently enrolled in a program in Environmental Science, Forestry, Engineering, Emergency Management, GIS, or related field.
  • Have strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Are proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Can synthesize data into concise, actionable summaries.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Ideally, you also have:

  • Familiarity with wildfire risk indices, utility wildfire mitigation plans, or emergency management processes.
  • Experience with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and/or data visualization platforms.
  • Knowledge of CPUC and California Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety regulatory processes.
