What you can expect

In this role, you’ll guide senior leadership on energy policy and regulatory strategy while collaborating across teams to align policy efforts with business growth. You’ll monitor federal, state, and local developments, translating them into actionable insights for commercial teams. Expect to engage with policymakers, regulators, and industry groups to advocate for clean energy initiatives, while building relationships that advance our strategic objectives. You’ll also communicate policy changes and funding opportunities internally, and support decision-making through research on market trends and regulatory shifts.

 

This position can be remote with a preference to sit California or the DMV area and will report to the Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to senior management on policy and regulatory matters.
  • Collaborate with marketing, business development, project finance and executive functions to develop and execute on policy roadmap in support of business growth.
  • Participate in industry organizations to inform company strategy and support the growth of performance contracting, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
  • Monitor relevant laws and regulations at the state, local and Federal level, advising the commercial organization on how to position our offerings to take advantage of policy changes.
  • Engage with various external stakeholders, including government and regulatory officials, industry organizations, community organizations and interest groups to build support for policies and regulatory decisions to support the business.
  • Bring and build relationships with policymakers and community organizations to gather support for clean energy policy initiatives.
  • Communicate funding opportunities, policy changes and regulatory updates to internal stakeholders including project engineers, project managers and business developers.
  • Conduct research on energy trends, technologies, and regulatory changes to support policy recommendations, and provide recommendations on their implications for our business.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of regulatory environments.

 

Requirements

  • Experience advocating on behalf of energy efficiency, public agency interests or renewable energy.
  • Expertise in distributed energy resource policy, local energy infrastructure, and local and Federal government procurement.
  • Track record of success project managing and owning policy initiatives to achieve organizational goals.
  • Excellent time management, decision-making, interpersonal, presentation, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership, intellectual rigor and curiosity.
  • Strong Word and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
  • For this position, you must have evidence of right to work in the U.S. There is no employer sponsorship of U.S. residency or work authorization with this role.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of policy, regulatory and energy industry experience.
  • Experience in regulatory, policy-making and advocacy organizations or roles.

Essential Physical Abilities

  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to use personal computer, phone, mobile device, etc.
  • Could involve some lifting.

Compensation

Salary Range: $93,000 – $196,000 USD annually
