About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated junior attorney to join the world-class team of professionals responsible for developing LS Power’s innovative and important new energy infrastructure projects.  As the Associate Corporate Counsel, you will collaborate with the LS Power legal group to provide advice to senior management and teams of project developers throughout the project development lifecycle, including initial design, commercialization, competitive bidding, real estate acquisition, land use permitting, financing, construction and operation of electric transmission infrastructure and other energy projects.  The successful candidate will have both a meaningful role and an opportunity to develop professionally with the support of collaborative and experienced peers.  Responsibilities will include some or all of the following.   

Responsibilities

What you will do:

  • Serve as a key member of a sophisticated team of developers, eventually acting as primary in-house attorney for an expansive range of matters.
  • Support construction contracting and construction management efforts, including by evaluating change order requests and making recommendations based on contract terms.
  • Assist with (and grow to lead) transactions at all stages, including drafting and negotiating term sheets and definitive transaction documentation.
  • Identify and analyze legal issues, and present clear, well-reasoned business and legal recommendations to clients reflecting a thorough appreciation of the business objectives and constraints.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risk exposure, and explain and balance risks and rewards of a particular course of action.
  • Recommend, retain, and manage outside counsel as needed to cost-efficiently achieve objectives.
  • Assist with occasional dispute resolution and litigation as needed.
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including construction management, finance, regulatory, permitting, accounting, and asset management.
  • Assist with certain financing, environmental, compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Perform other responsibilities as identified from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate excellent judgment, communication, and drafting skills and you take pride in producing high-quality work under time pressure.
